5 Mistakes We Made With Our Save the Dates
Lemme start by clarifying: I LOVE how our save the dates turned out! They were designed by the super talented team at A Fabulous Fete and I'm obsessed 😍
I just learned a few things along the way that I wish I'd known earlier! If you're planning a wedding, read these tips and it might save you some trouble.
1. We Didn't Ask Our Parents for Feedback Until the Very End
We had been working with A Fabulous Fete until I thought the Save the Dates were perfect and ready to go!! Once I was sure they were done, I showed my parents for the final stamp of approval. Welllll... they had some feedback. Nothing huge, but I wish I showed them at the very beginning and gotten their feedback then. It would have saved a lot of time and back and forth!
2. We Forgot to Include Our Last Names
Whoops. Didn't think about this until it was too late. I guess a few of our parents' friends or random cousins might not be sure whose wedding they're going to until they get the official invite. Won't be making that mistake again!
3. We Underestimated the Time It Would Take to Gather Addresses
I sat down, ready to address! and realized... wait, I don't know what to address yet. Texting friends, getting info from our parents, looking through and finalizing the guest list - it all took much longer than expected.
4. We Didn't Have the Website Ready
After I gathered all the addresses, wrote them all out by hand, and was ready to drop them in the mail, I forgot that the website wasn't finalized yet. Sure we had set up a quick version of it, but we still needed to include venue details (everyone will want to start booking rooms ASAP!) and figure out the messaging and info.
5. We Sent Them Out a Bit Too Late
By the time we finished designing the Save the Dates, gathering addresses, finishing the website, and actually dropping them in the mail, it's about 4 months until our wedding. I wish we had sent them out a little earlier so that people had more time to mark their calendars and plan!
NOW... THE THINGS WE DID RIGHT!
✔️ Used a stamp for the return addresses. Fast and easy! I loved this gold ink pad I got from Amazon
✔️ Bought multiple gold pens (also from Amazon!). The first couple ran out, so I was glad to have extra!
✔️ Took pics of the finished product. I'm so happy I have something to remember them by even after I dropped them in the mail!
✔️ Added our personality. We broke a few traditional "rules" that we were totally ok with! We wanted these to show our vibe.
✔️ Researched a designer. I did a ton of research and chose to work with A Fabulous Fete because I loved her style and I felt like it matched ours.
Now, let's get started on the invitations!
